In the remote highlands of northern Vietnam, where the clouds kiss terraced hills and forest paths wind through ancient villages, some stories are not written in books—they are walked, step by step.

Ly Thi Si, a Black Hmong woman from Ly Village, Ta Van Commune, has spent the past 8 years guiding travelers through these stories—across misty ridgelines, bamboo forests, and the soul of Sapa.

She is more than a trekking guide. She is a voice of her land.

A Journey of Eight Years and Countless Steps

For nearly a decade, Si has led thousands of travelers across Sapa’s most breathtaking trekking routes. During peak season, she sometimes guides two tours a day—one in the morning, another in the afternoon—without pause. Her stamina is matched only by her warm smile and boundless hospitality.

Every step she takes is guided by a deep knowledge of the land—and a passion to share it.

From Mountain Girl to Professional Guide

Born in a small Hmong village, Si never imagined she would one day lead international travelers through her homeland. But with determination, she learned English, communicating fluently with guests from around the world. She also completed her on-site guide certification, becoming a respected professional in a field often dominated by men.

Through this work, she has earned a stable income, ensured her children’s education, and gained confidence and independence.

“I don’t just guide,” Si says. “I tell the stories of my homeland.”

Travel With Purpose, Discover With Heart

A trek with Si isn’t just about beautiful landscapes—it’s about connection. She opens the door to the culture, resilience, and daily lives of the Black Hmong people. Guests learn about traditional embroidery, herbal medicines, harvest rituals, and the subtle meanings behind each woven pattern.

Many who walk with her say they leave with more than just photos—they leave with a deeper understanding of Vietnam’s highland communities.
